About CodexaX

We're building the editor we wish existed: AI-native, open, and local-first.

Our story

CodexaX started as a frustration. Cursor was great but closed. Continue was great but an extension. VS Code's built-in chat was great but locked to Copilot. We wanted one editor with all the strengths and none of the lock-in. So we forked VS Code 1.116, kept the AI primitives Microsoft had already built, swapped the backend, and made it ours.

Open by default
Everything that can be open source, is. The model is the only black box.
Local-first
Your code runs on your machine. The proxy is optional. Self-host anytime.
Boring UX
No celebrations, no dancing widgets. The best AI feels like a fast keystroke.
Fair pricing
Pay for tokens, not seats. Free tier is real, not bait.
